Kimberley Communities Solar Saver

A new way to access the benefits of solar power in the Kimberley.

Kimberley Communities Solar Saver is a new way of sharing power that benefits everyone in the community

We are removing community barriers to access renewable energy in remote Kimberley communities. By installing solar panels on some homes in these communities, we are reducing the reliance on diesel generators and helping reduce their power costs.

The following communities are now participating in the program and are benefiting from the energy savings delivered across their entire community after having solar panels installed:

  • Warmun
  • Bidyadanga
  • Ardyaloon

Yungngora, located on the banks of the Fitzroy River, is our fourth KCSS community, with installations due to be completed by the end of 2025.

The Kimberley Communities Solar Saver will continue to grow with more communities expected to participate in 2026.

Not all homes get solar, but everyone benefits.

Not every location or roof is right for solar. It depends on which way the roof is facing, roof shading, available space and other factors. With Kimberley Communities Solar Saver, it doesn’t matter which rooftops have solar panels. Everyone in the community saves money on their power costs.

Using solar power during the day = more savings and less diesel

Solar systems turn the sun’s rays into power when the sun is shining. Although shared solar won’t completely replace diesel generators, the more power generated and used from the sun means less power needed from diesel generators. This makes it a better, more sustainable power source for our environment.

Using shared solar during the day will help our communities reduce their household power costs.
